How to channel your worries in a helpful way
The recent events in Ukraine have impacted so many of us in different ways. Of course, one cannot compare the stress faced by Ukranians on the ground to someone’s worries in the UK. At the same time, those worries exist and ignoring them doesn’t help either.
When we ignore our worries, they consume our energy. This means we’re less able to be our best self, and therefore less able to contribute to those struggling more than us.
A quote to keep in mind
“Embracing stress can make you feel more empowered in the face of challenges. It can enable you to better use the energy of stress. It can help you turn stressful experiences into a source of social connection rather than isolation.“
— Kelly McGonigal
Health psychologist, author and lecturer at Stanford University
How to channel your worries in a helpful way
In my experience as a coach and as a human who worries, I have found that the best cure for worrying is acting on that worry. Here are a few questions that may help you turn your worry into energy, and turn that energy into action:
💡 What are the thoughts behind my worry?
💡 What’s at stake here that I care deeply about?
💡 If I was to think of my worry as a source of energy, what helpful actions could it fuel?
