You can always restart your ‘energy infrastructure’ rituals
As a coach, I work with inspiring entrepreneurs and startup leaders on strengthening their ‘energy infrastructure’ – the set of habits, routines and activities which replenish their internal resources i.e. their energy, motivation, focus, clarity and creativity.
On this journey, each of them has ‘high’ weeks and ‘low’ weeks – times when they feel invincible because they are honouring their rituals … and gloomier times when they feel like they are drifting away.
During those gloomier times, I try to remind them of the following:
(a) It happens to all of us – life is not linear;
(b) You can always restart – your rituals are within your reach.
A quote to keep in mind
“It’s possible to start living again! See things anew as you once did – this is how to restart life.”
–Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.2
How to restart your rituals
Try using your imagination to reignite that feeling of energy, mental clarity and motivation associated with your ‘energy infrastructure’ rituals.
Here’s an example of a creative visualisation exercise, which I used to help a client restart their morning run ritual:
Close your eyes. Imagine that it’s tomorrow morning. You hear the alarm in the other room where you left your phone the night before. You get out of bed and walk to the other room. There you see your phone and your running gear next to it. It’s 6.30am. You turn the alarm off and put on your running gear. You walk towards the door and off you go for a run. Imagine that feeling of being out early in the morning for a run – there’s almost nobody around, you’re getting started ahead of everyone! Now imagine coming back – it’s 7am and you’ve already been out for a run. You’re making a cup of coffee to reward yourself. How does this feel?
It’s funny how a simple morning ritual can make us feel invincible 😉 and impact how wisely we use our time during the day. What are your ‘energy infrastructure’ rituals?
